Abhi Kuch Din Lagain Ge

Abhi kuch din lagain ge
Dil aisay sheher ke paamaal ho jaanay ka manzar bhoolnay mein
Abhi kuch din lagain ge
Jahaan-e-rang ke saaray khas-o-khaashaak
Sab sarv-o-sanobar bhoolnay mein
Abhi kuch din lagain ge
Thakay haaray huay khaabon ke saahil per
Kaheen ummeed ka chota sa ik ghar
Bantay bantay reh gaya hai...
Woh ik ghar bhoolnay mein,
Abhi kuch din lagain ge

Magar ab din he kitnay reh gaye hain
Bus ik din dil ki lauh-e-muntazir per
Achaanak
Raat utray gee
Meri benoor aankhon ke khazaanay mein chupay
Her khaab ki takmeel kar de gee
Mujhay bhi khaab mein tabdeel kar de gee
Ik aisa khaab jis ka dekhna mumkin nahin tha
Ik aisa khaab jis ke daaman-e-sadd chaak mein koi mubarak
Koi raushan din nahin tha
Abhi kuch din lagain ge...

~Iftikhar Arif

paamaal = to sully
khas-o-khaashaak = tinka, mitti ; earth's most invaluable things
sarv-o-sanobar = kinds of trees (sarv AND sanobar)
lauh = tablet, something that you write on
daaman-e-sadd chaak = aisa daaman jis mein 100 (sadd) chaak (cut) lagay hon, keh denay vaala bhalay daaman bhar de, sab neechay gir jaaye aur jholi mein kuch na rahay

(It'll be a while... to forget the sullification of a city such as the heart's, to forget all the big and small things of the desired world (of the world that I wanted to have, that I thought of having). Somewhere near the shore of all dead and lost dreams, hope tried to make a small house... it'll be a while to forget that house. But how much time is left now anyway? One night, all of a sudden, all my unfulfilled dreams will be realized, but then I'll become a dream (meaning I would be gone - maybe as in dead). An undreamable dream. A dream that didn't get anything... though its actualization was tried, it wasn't meant to become real. It just wasn't meant to get even a moment of blessings and light (of hope))

Hi Ambareen,

Thanks for posting this nice poem here. Although I was in search of it in Urdu and didn't find it anywhere, but I transcribed it into Urdu for myself. Then I thought I should share it with you and your readers too, for, maybe there's someone else who wants to read it in Urdu too.

So here it is...

(My apologies, though: the word 'kuch' doesn't show a 'double' 'hey' but that's a web font limitation)

----------
